Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, has urged universities in the country to strive for global recognition-
by raising academic standards and aligning programs with industry requirements.
Speaking at the University of Nairobi’s 70th Graduation, Machogu emphasized the need for academic institutions to compete with renowned universities like MIT and Oxford.
He however stressed the importance of tailoring educational programs to meet the evolving needs of industries and promoting innovation and research.
“Kenya Universities must strive for global recognition by fostering an environment of excellent , innovation and research prowess,”CS Machogu noted.
Machogu highlighted the significance of embracing innovation and research as crucial pillars for growth and competitiveness in the global academic arena.
Thus Machogu called for a paradigm shift in academic approaches, advocating for a curriculum that equips graduates with practical skills.
“It is important that our educational institutions align themselves with industry needs ,ensuring graduates possess the skill set demanded on the international stage,”Machogu said.
Therefore,Machogu assured stakeholders of ongoing efforts to resolve financial difficulties and create an environment conducive to quality education.
“We can not afford to lag.Our universities should be hub for innovation and research,creating graduates who can complete and excell,”he added.
Additionally,he also mentioned the government’s initiatives to facilitate job opportunities abroad-
supported by the establishment of the State Department for Diaspora.
However, Machogu emphasized that Kenyan universities should become hubs of innovation and research, producing graduates who can excel in the market.
He emphasized that obtaining degrees is not enough, and graduates need practical skills and knowledge.
“It is not merely just obtaining degree but about equipping graduates with the practicals skills and knowledge required in today dynamic industry,”he stated.
Morever,Machogu highlighted the urgent need for universities to adapt to the changing times and ensure graduates are equipped with the necessary skill sets.
