CS Machogu gives Warning to Secondary Principal on fee Increment

Education Cabinet Secretary Machogu  reiterates the government’s commitment to protect parents from additional financial burdens.

The CS while presiding over the announcement of the placement of the 2023 KCPE Candidates in Lenana secondary schools today-

He stated that school principals have no authority to increase fees without express approval from his office.

“If any monkey business is done anywhere ,the information will come out.Unless there is express approval from my office,no fee increase should happen,”Machogu stated.

Machogu warned that any fee increment without proper authorization would be swiftly dealt with.

“Your main responsibility is to ensure that no principal levies any additional fee.I have eyes and ears everywhere,”he said.

However, Machogu emphasized that it would be unfair for schools to increase fees.

He instructed county and regional directors of education,to ensure that no principal levies any additional fee.

Consequently, Machogu issued a directive that  prohibits schools from mandating parents to buy uniforms from specific shops.

Parents have the liberty to buy uniforms from anywhere.

“Parent should be at liberty to buy uniforms anywhere.People have been making business out of it.”

“It is not the responsibility of the school principal to buy uniforms and sell them to parent,”he stated .

Define principal role

Therefore, it is not the responsibility of school principals to buy and sell uniforms, as it would be a conflict of interest.

“A principal responsibility is not to transact business.That will be conflict of interest,” he added.

Machogu  announced that the reporting date for 2024 Form One students will be January 15, 2024.

Thus,Machogu advised candidates to access their results and download joining instructions from the Ministry’s official website.

“Upon downloading the joining instructions the candidate must present the letter to the headteacher of the primary school where they sat their KCPE for authentication,” he noted.

Morever,the Ministry of Education’s directive reminds principals and administrators that any deviation from the established guidelines will not be tolerated.
