Jimmy Wanjigi, a businessman has Drum up his support for Raila Odinga’s threat to return to demonstrations.
He says that this threat will pressure the government to lower the cost of living.
According to Wanjigi,he believed that Odinga’s call is timely, as Kenyans are burdened with high taxes.
“I support Raila Odinga 100 per cent.Street action and Maandamano are embedded in our constitution.”
“The pain must be expressed ,and let it be expressed in the street,in our homes and churches,”Wanjigi highlighted.
He therefore points to the increasing national debt as the primary cause of the rising cost of living for ordinary citizens.
Critic
He therefore criticizes the President William Ruto-led administration for disregarding the plight of the people.
Meanwhile,Wanjigi state that the government’s lack of responsiveness necessitates
the return to protests as a means of making their voices heard.
“It has become deaf to the plight of citizens, and thus the only way for Kenyan to be heard is to return to protest,”he added.
Additionally, the businessman emphasizes that the current year will not be easy, given the escalating national debt.
Debt unfold
However,he revealed that the national debt has increased from Ksh.8.6 trillion to Ksh.11 trillion,
even after Ksh.2 trillion has been allocated to debt repayment.
“About a year ago,our national debt was 8.6 trillion ,now it’s Sh 11 trillion even after paying 2 Trillion to that debt,”Wanjigi said.
Wanjigi highlighted the fact that the President acknowledged that Ksh.70 out of every Ksh.100 in tax revenue is used to service the debt.
“The president was very clear that he is making 7 out of every 10…70 out of 100 of our tax and has to keep increasing tax,”he explained.
This force the government to continually raise taxes.
Wanjigi support Raila’s call
Additionally, Wanjigi expresses his full support for Odinga’s call for street action and protests.
He believes that such actions are embedded in the Constitution and provide an avenue to express their pain and frustration.
Consequently,Wanjigi said that the government’s lack of attentiveness to the citizens’ concerns necessitates-
their active participation and pressure for change.
The national debt has raised the cost of living which is a significant threat to the well-being of Kenyans.
Thus, Wanjigi urged the government to repeal the controversial Finance Act, 2023 for the betterment of its citizens.
Raila’s threat
This comes as Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Monday threatened to go back to the street,
