In a recent statement, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah strongly criticized President’s alarming allegations, stating that they lack any evidence.
Omtatah emphasized that if the President had any proof against the accused individuals, he should have handed it over to law enforcement.
“The allegations the President has made are grave and strike at the heart of Kenya’s constitutional order because judicial independence, upon which the rule of law rests,”Omtata said.
Omtatah vehemently denied any involvement in bribery, concluding that he has not bribed any judge and has no intention of doing so.
He further expressed his lack of knowledge on how judges are bribed-
highlighting his strong moral values that prevent him from engaging in such activities.
Safequide Judiciary
The Senator stressed the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the Judiciary in the interest of justice.
He emphasized the need to protect the judiciary from any actions or omissions that could undermine its authority-
whether political, administrative, or otherwise.
“It is in the interest of justice that the integrity of the Judiciary is safeguarded and insulating it from both actions and omissions –
be they political, administrative, or otherwise – that could undermine judicial authority,” Okiya Omtatah noted.
Omtatah underscored the impact of the President’s allegations, as they strike at the heart of Kenya’s constitutional order.
He explained that judicial independence, which is crucial for upholding the rule of law,
requires judges to be free from any pressure or influence.
“It requires judges not to be subject to pressure and influence, so that they are free to make impartial decisions based solely on fact and law,” Okiya Omtata stated.
This ensures that their decisions are impartial and based solely on fact and law.
