13-Year-Old Boy Electrocuted While Connecting Power in Nairobi Slum

A 13-year-old boy has lost his life after being electrocuted while connecting power to their house in Kawangware, Nairobi.

The incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon, occurred when the boy accidentally touched a live naked wire during the wiring process.

The police report revealed that the deceased suffered visible burns on the right side of his chest and on his left hand’s finger.

Kenya Power officials and the police are currently investigating the incident-

pointing out that such electrocution cases are often the result of illegal power connections carried out by unqualified individuals.

In light of this tragic event, Kenya Power officials issued a warning to residents,

urging them to remain vigilant and report any cases of illegal power connections.

These connections not only pose a serious risk to the occupants of the houses but also contribute to the occurrence of such deadly incidents.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time such incidents have been reported in Nairobi.

Just last month, on December 13th, 2023,

a 3-year-old boy lost his life after being electrocuted while playing on his family’s balcony in Kayole.

The boy’s aunt, who had left him playing on the balcony-

was alerted by screams from the neighbors’ children who witnessed the tragedy.

Witnesses reported that the child was electrocuted by live wires near their house on that fateful Tuesday evening.

The authorities are urging residents to prioritize the safety of their homes and families by ensuring legal and safe power connections.
