The cabinet secretary Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Soipan Tuya claims that lack of advanced technology is one of the main constrain hindering Africa’s efforts to fight climate change.
According to the CS who presented the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) report, in Addis Ababa, other constraints that hinder Africa’s fight against climate change include insufficient climate finance.
Tuya presented the report in the presence of H.E President Dr. William Ruto, who is the Chairperson of CAHOSCC.
“Africa’s leaders have been tirelessly advocating for urgent and practical global, regional, and national actions for decades,” she stated.
“The continent’s efforts and commitment to combat climate change is severely constrained by inadequate, unpredictable and often not fit for purpose climate finance, as well as insufficient capacity and technology,” Tuya added.
The Cs stressed that Africa still remains the most vulnerable to the climate change crisis despite its low contribution to greenhouse emissions.
She further alarmed that Africa is set to become hotter and more arid while others will become increasingly more prone to flooding, rising sea levels, and related natural disasters.
“Africa, despite its low contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, remains the most vulnerable continent and continues to severely bear the cost of the adverse impact of climate change,” she stated.
