In the growing town of Rumuruti, a young Man named Tony discovered his passion for music at a tender age.
It was during his time in class 6 that he became enthralled by the performances of famous DJs on television.
Shows like KBC’s Club One and Citizen’s DJ Crim Dela Crim became his sources of inspiration, and he never missed an episode.
“I remember very well I developed an interest in Djing while I was in class 6.That time I could watch famous Djs like Dj Crim Dela Crim on citizen and KBC club one,”he noted.Tony’s journey towards becoming a DJ began when he acquired his first laptop in 2016, immediately after completing high school. With the installation of DJ applications like Virtual DJ, he embarked on countless hours of practice.
Determined to improve his skills, he worked on various projects and sought feedback from experienced individuals in the industry.
One person who played a pivotal role in Tony’s development as a DJ was Young the DJ.
“Actually Young the DJ introduced me to the machines,Taught me how to go about them,” Tony says.
This seasoned professional not only mentored Tony but also introduced him to the intricacies of DJing and the necessary equipment.
Together, they performed at a few shows, and Tony’s talent began to gain recognition.
However, Tony faced his fair share of challenges along the way.
One major obstacle was the lack of a suitable laptop for practicing his craft.
Recognizing the importance of having the right tools,
Young the DJ advised him to invest in a high-quality laptop that could seamlessly integrate with the DJing equipment.
“The Young the DJ told me that I need an improved laptop that go hand in hand with the machines,”he explains.
Financial constraints also posed a significant hurdle for Tony.
Despite his growing talent and the acquisition of a diploma in DJing from DJ Dibul School in 2023, he found himself being paid a mere 600 shillings for a DJ job.
Tony firmly believed that DJs should be regarded as professionals and deserved fair compensation for their expertise.
“I remember there was a time I was paid 600 shillings and I felt I don’t deserve that amount of money,Dj is like any other job,”he says.
Undeterred by the challenges, Tony remained focused on his dream.
Dj Tony emphasized the importance of self-belief and encouraged aspiring DJs not to underestimate themselves.
“I urge them to give their best and trust that their efforts would bear fruit,”DJ tony notes.
Today, at the age of 26, Tony has achieved his dream of becoming a DJ.
His talent and hard work have landed him a position at Hega 91.4 FM, where he continues to captivate audiences with his unique style and infectious energy.
With his sights set on the future, Tony envisions himself in a prominent media house,
further solidifying his name in the industry and gaining widespread popularity.

He overcame financial constraints, societal skepticism, and self-doubt to pursue his true calling.
Through his story, he inspires young DJs to ignore the naysayers and forge their own paths towards success.
