Kenya Judiciary has launched the Social Transformation Access to Justice Blueprint for the year 2023-2033.
This aims at building internal capacity and other institutional reforms in the judiciary.
Speaking during the launch on Friday, Chief Justice Martha Koome said the Blueprint will help foster culture of accountability, enhance service delivery and increase public confidence in the judiciary.
“Echoing the principles and values of the constitution, this blueprint prides itself on promoting, accessibility, accessibility, transparency, accountability, inclusivity, shared leadership, cooperative dialogue and social justice,” she said adding that,
“This underscores the Judiciary’s commitment to ensure that every Kenyan regardless of socio-economic status, geographical location or personal vulnerabilities experiences justice as a daily reality.”
CJ Koome added that the Judiciary acknowledges that in order to achieve a goal, it has to address the existing barriers to access justice
– be it the geographical, economic and structural.
She added the blueprint will change the face of Judiciary since it will embark on a new trajectory where its focus will be to transform the judiciary into a caring and service-oriented institution.
“The blueprint will help judiciary not only to focus on dispensing justice but also to uplift and empower the people of Kenya by fostering peace and harmony in our communities,” she added.
The STAJ blueprint envisions the judiciary as a connector of justice champions, leveraging the justice capabilities of Kenyans.
“We aim to promote a multi-door approach to Justice, empowering individuals to resolve disputes through various means including, mediation, traditional (alternative) justice systems, conciliation, abitration and other dispute resolution avenues,” she added.
She said the Blueprint stands as a symbol of the shared vision for a judicial system that is accessible, efficient and responsive.
