The national Gikuyu association of elders  “kiama kiama” has today clarified deputy president Rigathi Gachagua as the political head of Kikuyu nation.

Elders asked political leaders from central Kenya to respect the Deputy president.

They said he is the one who can address the needs of the community at government level.

Speaking during the installation ceremony of the new ‘kiama kiama’ county chairman in Nyeri,

The association national chairman Ndungu Gaithuma said that at the moment Gachagua has the mantle of political leadership in Kikuyu nation.

“Let us stop beating around the bush, Gachagua is the senior most politician in Ruto government. He is the only person who can address community needs, he is the one we as community can run to as a community for our needs, ” said Gaithuma.

He said that the former president Uhuru Kenyatta should also be accorded the respect he deserves.

The sentiment by the elders comes at time when the region is divided on whom is the Kikuyu community political leader.

A section of leaders from the region have declared that the region political kingpin still remains in the hands of Kenyatta.

While  another section says that, power have shifted to Gachagua who is the senior most politician in Mt Kenya region at the moment.

However in the declaration the elders said that political leaders who have been elected should be respected.

Gaithuma who is the national chair of Kikuyu elders said when the right time comes they will award community leader his mantle to lead up to his time.
