Laikipia Implements Modern ECDE Model for Children’s Development

• Laikipia County Implements Modern ECDE Model for Children’s Holistic Development

The County Government of Laikipia  has unveiled a new and modern Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) improvement model.

It is aimed at providing comprehensive facilities to cater to the holistic needs of young learners.

The model introduces various features to enhance hygiene, sanitation, safety, comfort, dignity, and security for the children.

Under the implementation of this new model, the county is introducing modern learning spaces that are furnished with age-appropriate and child-friendly furniture, available in multiple beautiful colors.

These spaces are designed to create a conducive environment for effective learning and development.

Mr. John Gichuki, the Chief Officer of Laikipia County, highlighted the importance of the new facilities, stating,

“The modern facilities are a departure from traditional designs, offering more than just a classroom building and traditional desks.”

“We have introduced child-friendly desks that come in four sets of age and size-appropriate chairs, ensuring comfort for the children,”Gichuki said.

To ensure the safety and well-being of the children, the comprehensive ECDE designs include roof water harvesting guttering,

10,000-litre water storage tanks, modern swings, ablution facilities, and security perimeter fencing.

These measures aim to provide a secure and conducive environment for both the children and the equipment.

Last weekend, Mr. Gichuki delivered a consignment of 10 sets of the new desks, each equipped with four chairs-

to the Kahuho ECDE center located on the border of Ol Moran and Marmanet wards.

Therefore,Laikipia County is dedicated to expanding access to ECDE facilities,

with plans to construct 30 new centers across the county in the next two to three months.

The government is also considering the implementation of tented mobile ECDE centers to cater to the needs of children in pastoralist communities.

However, the introduction of tented mobile ECDE units poses unique challenges.

The government is aware of the staffing requirements-

with teachers needing to be competent in local languages and willing to live within the community.

The County Government of Laikipia remains committed to providing quality ECDE facilities.

Thus, bringing them closer to each village and settlement area to ensure easy access for all children.

This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to the holistic development of young learners, promoting a solid foundation for their future education and success.

With the implementation of the new ECDE model.

Consequently,Laikipia County is taking significant strides in creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment for its children, setting an example for other regions to follow.
