More Seizures Made as War on Contraband Milk Continues
In an effort to ensure food safety and eradicate contrabands, security teams have intensified their crackdown on businesses endangering the lives of consumers.
The latest operation, carried out at Best Buy Commodities Ltd warehouse located at Bluesilk Holdings Ltd godowns in Embakasi, Nairobi,
resulted in the confiscation of contraband milk products valued at approximately Sh3 million.
During the raid, authorities seized over ten thousand tins of various milk products from Saudi Arabia,
including Luna Full Cream, Luna Sweetened Condensed Milk, Luna Evaporated Milk Karak, Cardamom, and Full Cream, among others.
Additionally, contraband milk products from Malaysia were also discovered and confiscated.
This seizure comes just two days after another significant bust in Eastleigh at Amana Wholesalers Ltd stores, where milk products estimated at Sh 10 million were recovered.
In that operation, seven suspects were apprehended and subsequently charged.
The joint efforts of the Kenya Dairy Board, KRA officers, and other agencies have resulted in the recovery of a substantial amount of contraband milk products.
Among the items seized were 202 tins of NURA branded milk powder weighing 2.5Kg each, 371 tins of FRESH branded milk powder weighing 2.5Kg each, 891 tins of COW & GATE branded milk powder weighing 400gms each,
985 tins of NAN branded milk powder weighing 400gms each, and 472 tins of SMA branded milk powder weighing 800gms each.
Furthermore, authorities discovered 155 tins of S26 branded milk powder weighing 400gms each, 71 tins weighing 2.5Kg, 164 tins weighing 900gms, 818 tins weighing 390gms, and 7 bags weighing 25Kg of HILWA branded milk powder.
Also seized were 159 tins of ANCHOR branded milk powder weighing 2.5Kg each, 73 tins weighing 2.5Kg and 72 tins weighing 900gms of LATO branded milk powder, and 110 tins of HANAN branded milk powder weighing 2.5Kg each.
In addition, authorities confiscated 66 tins weighing 2.5Kg and 120 tins weighing 900gms of BROOKSIDE branded milk powder, 639 tins of LIPTOMIL branded milk powder weighing 400gms each,
49 tins of ALPHA branded milk powder weighing 400gms each, 72 sachets weighing 500gms of ALMANI CHASE branded milk powder, and 48 sachets weighing 500gms of SALIM CHASE branded milk powder.
As a result of the Eastleigh operation, the seven suspects arrested were charged with three counts and released on a two million shillings bond.
The continuous crackdown on contraband milk products is a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its citizens.
