Over 7500 sugarcane farmers are set to benefit from the West Valley Sugar Company which started its operations yesterday.
The newly commissioned 3.2 billion shillings sugar company located in Kericho is set to benefit residents in Kericho, Nandi, and Nyando.
According to the managing director of the company, he says that the company is fully automated and has a crushing capacity of 1250 tonnes, capable of producing between 2000 and 2500, bags of sugarcane every day.
“We are going to produce 2000 to 2500 bags of sugar, which is on a daily basis. We get our sugarcane from the Kericho, Nandi, and Nyando zones,” said the managing director Bernard Soi.
Farmers have been further advised to plant more sugarcane which will potentially enable Kenya to manufacture and export its own sugar.
“With cane development from the farmers, ensuring that we plant a lot of cane, we will be able to develop our own sugar plant. We will be able to manufacture our own sugar, and we can even be able to export as a country sugar,” added the director
