Police Arrest Controller of Budget Dr Margaret Nyakango

Police have arrested the controller of budget Dr Margaret Nyakango during a public seminar in Mombasa in connection to a complain made Against her and ten others.

Among the complain placed against Nyakango included operating a Sacco without licence, and forgery.

The arrest comes just weeks after Margaret made controversial revelations regarding salary inflation and warned of a looming financial crisis in the country.
Dr Nyakango who resumed office on December 4th ,2019,was expected to retire in November 2027 in accordance with article 251 of the constitution of Kenya.
However,the office of the controller of budget enjoy security of tenure with the holder serving a non-renewable term of eight years.
During the presentation before the National Dialogue committee (NADCO),she disclosed that her salary had been inflated without here consent.
“When I was doing the budget for consolidated funds services, this is where my salary is paid from, I found out that my salary was budgeted at three times what I’m paid,”Dr Nyakango stated.
She further added that,”I am the only state officer in my institution so there is nothing like confusion there. I’m all alone. So I asked them why is the budget showing three times what my annual salary is. And it was like that for all the state officers. I have not received the answer to date,” she said.
She further discovered that her salary was budgeted at three times the amount she actually received.
Therefore,the Dr Nyakango raised concerns to other state officers as well.
Despite her inquiries Dr.Nyakango has yet to receive an explanation.
Adding to the controversy ,Dr Nyakango recently issues a warning in her monthly report to the national Assembly.
She highlighted the weakening shilling against the dollar ,which has led to a significant increase in public debt.
