Police Officer Arrested for Violent Robbery
A rogue police officer is now in custody after an intense confrontation with members of the public during a violent robbery on February 3, 2024.
Police Constable Edgar Opollo found himself cornered and facing a furious mob,
but was ultimately saved by the Kisii Central police who were on patrol.
The incident unfolded when Opollo robbed a smartphone from a Kisii University student.
However, luck was not on his side as the vigilant officers discovered him amidst a hail of hefty blows from outraged citizens.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, the officers swiftly apprehended the injured suspect and escorted him to the police station.
Meanwhile, the local DCI detectives were already on the trail of an armed gang of three who had carried out a robbery on January 2, 2024.
The gang had targeted the PEPS Mini Supermarket at Corner Mbaya,
making off with a substantial sum of Sh40,000.
The entire incident was captured by CCTV cameras, which clearly showed the three robbers-
two of whom had partially concealed their faces.
Shockingly, one of the armed robbers was dressed in police fatigues and carried an AK47 rifle,
making it difficult to distinguish him as a police officer.
Following Opollo’s arrest, an identification parade was promptly organized.
During the parade, the supermarket owner successfully identified Opollo as one of the robbers who had accosted him during the heist.
This revelation further deepened the investigation, leading to the discovery that Opollo was,
in fact, a General Service Unit officer deployed in Kisii.
Currently, the suspect is recuperating under police guard at a Kisii hospital. Once he has sufficiently recovered-
He will face rigorous interrogation and subsequently be arraigned for the charge of robbery with violence.
The authorities are determined to hold him accountable for his actions and ensure justice is served.
