The Aga Khan University has today donated equipments worth 2 Million to Pumwani Maternity Hospital to improve health care.
Among the equipment donated included Ultrasound machine,a fridge,and a printer.
This follows the completion of the Covid- 19 in pregnancy study ,funded by the world Health Organization (WHO).
The aim of the study was to access the impact of severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 infection on pregnancy outcomes.
However ,the data collected from women infected with SARS-COV-2 will determine the risks for pregnancy,perinatal,neonatal and postpartum outcomes.
Geoffrey Mosiria,Nairobi chief Officer for health stated that through this research,it will contribute in improving quality care and informed decision-making.
He further stressed the important of the equipment donated in achieving Universal Health care for all Kenyan by 2030.
“As a government, we are pleased to see that research is improving quality of care in facilities and data is being used to make decisions,”he said.
He further added that,”This handover ceremony is also contributing to the goal of Universal Health Care for all Kenyans by 2030 which includes the scaling up of maternal and child health,” said Geofrey Mosiria.
Additionally,prof Marleen Temmerman,Director of the Aga khan emphasized the study’s potential in developing recomendations for surveillance,management,and counseling of women.
“The study will help to develop recommendations on the surveillance, management, and counselling of women during and after pregnancy as well as their babies in the context of a pandemic,”said Prof Marleen Temmerman
Prof noted that the findings from the study will also help to inform public health measures on infectious diseases and prevention measures.
The findings will also create awareness on infectious diseases and prevention strategies.
The Ultrasound will be used in antenatal care by enabling healthcare providers to access fetal development, gestation age,fetal position and the number of fetuses.
Therefore ,with CoEWCH EAs there will be screening for all pregnant women preferably before 24 weeks.
Morever,CEO Christine Kiteshu,Pumwani Hospital noted that the hospital dedication to quality care in advancing research will be of important.
“At Pumwani Maternity Hospital, we value quality of care which relies heavily on research. Since our established a relationship with Aga Khan University, we have been passionate about studies that accelerate training and research on maternal and child care,”Christine added.
She further says that the study will assist the vulnerable women in providing essential equipments that ensures well-being of women is adhered.
