Azimio leader Raila Odinga has embarked on a tour of the Coastal region, where he expressed his belief that Kenyans would greatly benefit from the leadership of the One Kenya Alliance government if he had won the presidency.
His tour began in Lamu County on Monday, where he claimed that he was robbed of victory in the August 9, 2022 general elections.
During his address at the Mkunguni meeting grounds in Lamu, Raila Odinga, accompanied by coastal leaders and ODM officials,
stated that his vision was to transform Lamu into a small Dubai, both in terms of development and infrastructure.
He emphasized the importance of the Lamu Port and Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor (Lapsset) project-
which he initiated in collaboration with the late President Mwai Kibaki.
The project aims to enhance infrastructure and development in Lamu and the entire Northern region of Kenya.
Raila further highlighted his plan to construct a modern railway (SGR) that would connect Lamu to neighboring countries such as Ethiopia and Sudan.
He also expressed his intention to improve transportation, particularly for the fishing industry, and enhance industries in the area.
Additionally, his vision included the construction of modern airports and industries to boost Lamu’s economic growth, trade, and improve the lives of its residents, similar to Dubai.
He lamented the fact that despite their victory in the elections, their win was denied, and the country was suffering under misguided leadership.
He urged the citizens to unite and liberate the nation from corrupt politicians who are not addressing the high cost of living.
Raila Odinga urged the residents of Lamu, the Coastal region, and the entire country to join ODM in large-
numbers and register as full members to ensure a successful competition in the 2027 General Elections.
Secretary-General of ODM Sifuna, who also emphasized the need for strong support from the public to strengthen both ODM and the One Kenya Alliance.
Raila Odinga’s tour continued on Tuesday, with a visit to Tana River County,
where he addressed rumors of disciplinary action against Junet Mohamed, the Suna East Member of Parliament.
He dismissed the reports as propaganda spread through the media-
stating that Junet remained a key leader within ODM and the Azimio La Umoja Alliance.
Odinga clarified that the allegations against Junet were fabricated and likened them to claims of divisions within the Azimio Alliance.
He assured the public that Junet’s position as the Director of Campaigns in ODM and a leader in the alliance remained unchanged.
Junet Mohamed has been one of Raila Odinga’s closest allies and played a significant role in his presidential campaigns.
However, since the election loss, Junet has maintained a low profile, leading to some criticism from within the alliance.
Lastly, Odinga’s tour of the Coastal region focused on his vision for Lamu’s development and infrastructure-
as well as addressing rumors surrounding key party members.
He urged Kenyans to unite and join ODM to ensure a successful future in the upcoming elections.
