The Ethics And Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC)on Saturday Evening arrested the OCS for Ruai police station who demanded bribes to release persons he had locked up in cells on accusations of being drunk and disorderly.

EACC said the OCS raided a Club in Utawala during which an arbitrary arrest was allegedly conducted without any reasonable cause.

“On the following day, Saturday, the OCS- Duncan Otieng allegedly ordered each of the detainees to pay him Ksh.5,000 bribe to be released from custody,”EACC said.

He however told them , failure to that they would remain in in cells throughout the weeked to face charges of being drunk and disorderly tomorrow.

Upon verification of the claims,EACC says they  conducted an operation leading to the arrest of the OCS while receiving part of the demanded bribes.

“He was processed at Integrity Centre Police Station and later transferred for custody at Kilimani Police Station pending further action,”EACC stated.

CEO Twalib Mbarak has expressed concern over the increasing reports of extortion by some Officers Commanding Police Stations (OCSs) who allegedly detain citizens and then demand bribes as a condition for granting them freedom.

“We encourage the members of the public that whenever they face such kind of situation they alert the EACC. Then we will be able to work very closely with them so that we can arrest these bad elements within the police force to enhance justice,” Mbarak said.

He Urged police officers to desist from this unacceptable habit, calling upon citizens to continue exposing to EACC the individual officers tainting the image of the National Police Service and the country at large through such malpractices.
