Residents in Ruaka have held demonstrations at the Ruaka police station over an illegal community land grabbing.
The residents alleged that the grabbing was done by the county government of Nairobi.
Ruaka residents led by the Ruaka FC raised their concern after a community land, used by the community as a football training ground, was illegally acquired by the county government without their consent.
The football club has denied the claims that there was any public participation and says they are in the dark.
They stressed that since they use the ground to majorly train, they are the top beneficiaries and they therefore have the right to be notified on what was happening.
“We don’t know what is happening and the government should give us a plan on where we should go and what will happen to us after they have taken the ground,” said John Njuguna,Ruaka Fc captain
The football club has further expressed their worries that if the ground is grabbed and used for other purposes without any way forward, youths in the area will go back to indulging themselves in crime and drugs.
Additionally residents have urged that they want a dialogue with the county government where every party will lay down it’s interests regarding the field.
However the OCS, in Karura area has assured that he will hold conversations with the football club and has given directives to remove all the place obstructions in the field, and the teams to continue with their training in the field.
