A police officer was on Wednesday afternoon arrested when he honored summons and appeared before Internal Affair Unit [IAU] Detectives.
Samuel Boit was accused of assaulting a news presenter from capital fm after he extorted and abused her in kileleshwa.
The incident unfolds as Angela Muiruri took the necessary action and filed a case against the officer.
Internal Affairs Unit [IAU] on 11th April 2023 was given directive to proceed and charge him with offence of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
Angela stated that on the night of 19th December 2020,a guidance party in Kileleshwa was winding down at around 8.30 PM where the police stormed in harassing everyone.
She however explained that the guests were told to sit down on the ground, with none of the officers willing to explain their fault.
This time Angela found the courage to question them where she regretted afterwards.
“As a citizen I understand my rights and I just say you can’t man handle women like that,” Angela said.
She regretted saying that as she angered the officer who slapped her leading the officer to remove a whip.
“I was slapped and so I talked back to the officer and that is when he proceeded to whip,” she added.
Taken to cells
The officers proceeded to detain them at the premises until past curfew deliberately to increase their faults.
Eventually, they were taken to Muthangari police station where they were locked until the next morning.
Angela stated that at 4 AM on Monday morning, they were ask to give each one thousand each before they leave.
“Typically if you get locked up over the weekend, you don’t get out till Monday. But at about 4 AM, someone said we are going to be let out of the cells, but everyone must give one thousand each before you leave,” Angela stated.
She further noted that as they existed they signed a form that says free bail.Angela after the release was advised to file a police report to pursue justice.
She advised that for any public who befall the cruelty of these officers, it would be a difficult task for them.
She said that no one is subjected to such abuse from law enforcement officers.
“He ask me who did you say assaulted you? I told him the officers whose name is identified as deputy director of operations at Nairobi area and he said unfortunately we are junior to him. You know that my senior and I won’t be able to complete your report,” Angela stated.
Formerly, Samuel was SoPs Nairobi area before moving to Somalia on peacekeeping mission.
When resumed duty last month from annual leave was posted to Turkana County as SCPC.
Samuel after the arrest was taken to capital hill police station where he was processed and further released on Police cash bail of Sh 40,000.
The police oversight bodies have investigated several cases of brutality by officers during the enforcement of Covid regulations.
In December 2020, a police officer who allegedly clobbered his senior colleague breaking his arm in the presence of his wife and neighbors while enforcing curfew directives.
Constable Evans Mithika of Mawe Mbili police post in Ruai is accused of seriously injuring inspector Bernard Mochama of Administration Police Service’s Security in Njiru, Nairobi.
Mithika was arraigned before Milimani law courts where he became the first police officer to be charged with torturing a colleague.
Mochama had been dropped by a motorcycle rider.
He was in a hurry to beat the curfew when Mithika and his colleague who asked him to identify himself and where he was coming from.
He showed them his certificate of appointment with the NPS but they reportedly forced him to sit down.
Mochama gave his two junior colleagues more identification documents but they could take none of it.
However, he Sensed he was about to be tortured, Mochama took off towards his home, some 100 Metres away.
Mithika and his colleague are said to have accosted him outside his gate, which he found closed.
The two are said to have assaulted their senior colleague in presence of his wife and neighbors-
then called for reinforcement after members of public attempted to intervene and rescue him.
The station commander and other senior officers escorted Mochama to Ruai police station where the suspect’s seniors upon a brief interrogation set him free.
The matter was reported to IAU, which commenced investigations and found the two
– Mithika and his colleague to have acted in violation of service standing orders and committed a crime of inflicting grievous harms.
