The Government boosts security in Meru to tame livestock theft

The government has established more Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and General Service Unit (GSU) camps in Meru to respond to recent reported livestock theft in the area.

The aim according to the Interior Cabinet Secretary is also to provide a reassuring presence of security officers and tame the armed criminals who have been giving the residents sleepless nights in the past one month.
CS Kindiki also announced that 140 additional National Police Reservists (NPR) have begun their training to complement the efforts of the security personnel on the ground, whom he commended for tracking and recovering a substantial number of the stolen livestock.
The CS further sounded a stern warning to local leaders and politicians that those found inciting, planning, and financing livestock rustling, banditry and other armed crimes will soon be brought to justice.
Kindiki was speaking in Meru during a security strategy meeting with members of the Eastern Regional Security and Intelligence Committee, Meru County and Mutuati Sub-County Security and Intelligence teams and the local commanders of ASTU, GSU and other security formations.
