Two charged for being in possession of python skins, crocodile

Two men were on wednesday charged for being in possession of 7 python skins and two crodile skins.

Two accused persons, Oscar Kambona Musyimi and Anthony Mutie, have been sentenced by a court in Kithimani.

Therefore,they have been found guilty of the offence of being in possession of wildlife trophy, specifically 7 python skins and 2 crocodile skins.

The court has ordered them to pay a fine of 20,000,000/= each.

In case of default, they will have to serve 10 years imprisonment.

The incident took place on 27th November 2019 at Ndalani-Sofia Market in Machakos County.

However,the accused were caught with the illegal game trophy at the market.

During the trial, six prosecution witnesses provided consistent and collaborative testimonies,

which the accused failed to challenge during cross-examination.

Principal Magistrate Hon. Paul Wechuli delivered the judgment.

He emphasized the credibility of the prosecution witnesses and the inability of the accused to dispute their testimonies.

Mr. Nderitu Fredrick Kimathi represented the prosecution in this case.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of wildlife conservation and the protection of endangered species.

It sends a strong message to those involved in the illegal wildlife trade.
