Kisumu high court has sentenced two suspects to life imprisonment for the murder of George Anyango in 2018.
According to the Directorate of criminal Investigation [DCI], George was a manager at retired Justice Effie Owuor’s Muhoroni farm.
Isaac Kiptoo Rono and Julius Mengich Kipyegon were accused of the murder, in an incident where the Judge’s son Paul Owuor was attacked and left half dead.
The DCI indicated that in November 17,2018 attack, the suspects were armed with machetes where they ambushed George at his boss’s farm.
They inflicted multiple injuries on him before slitting his throat.
Paul Owuor who had accompanied George fired on the air to repulse the attackers but his firearm developed a stoppage and could not fire the suspects.
“Paul Owuor, a licensed firearm holder and who had accompanied George to the farm, fired in the air to repulse the attackers, but his firearm developed a stoppage and was equally attacked,” DCI stated.
In a separate charge of the suspects, Paul testified that he was deeply cut on his belly, which threatened to spill his intestine.
“Paul testified how a deep cut on his belly threatened to spill his intestines but used his shirt to hold them as he yelled for help. A tractor driver rushed him to hospital where his life was saved,” DCI noted.
However,Justice Hellen Aburiri of the Kisumu high court sentenced the two with the hope that George’s family will be comforted by the delivery of the justice.
DCI acknowledges the efforts of the security forces in Kisumu and Nandi counties who led by DCI homicide team hunted down the suspects.
